God is Love

We continue our study today concerning the attributes of God, the Creator of the universe (Genesis 1:1; John 1:1-3; Hebrews 3:4).

The Bible teaches that God is Infinitely Just. David said, "Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne" (Psalms 89:14). Jesus said that, "I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me" (John 5:30). Jesus said His judgement was just, and He was doing the will of the Father, saying that the Father is just also. Humans are prone to be unjust, partial at times, but not God. God will not make any bad calls on judgement day - on that you can depend.

The Bible also teaches that God is the Ultimate Expression of Goodness. David again says, "The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works" (Psalms 145:8-9). Words just cannot begin to express how good God has been to us all. Just stop to think that God has given us air, water, food, sight, hearing, touch, the ability to reason, and oh so many more wonderful blessings. We realize the goodness of God when we stop and count our blessings, naming them one by one.

The Bible teaches that, God is Love (I John 4:8). The apostle Paul defines and describes love in (I Corinthians 13:4-8). Read the passage replacing the word love with God. No greater love has been shown than the love that God has shown to man by the giving of His Only Begotten Son. "For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:6-8). "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).

God is Patient. "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9).  God is very patient with us all, giving us all time to come to our senses and serve the only true and living God.

God is Faithful. "Know therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments; but repays those who hate Him to their faces, to destroy them; He will not delay with him who hates Him, He will repay him to his face" (Deuteronomy 7:9-10). We can be sure that when God says He will save us, He will (Mark 16:16); when He says He we destroy us eternally in hell for disobeying, He will (Matthew 25:41)!

Why not obey God today? Jesus calls, "Come unto me".
