A Place Called Hell
Many religious folks today do not believe in an eternal hell. The Bible teaches that hell is a place prepared for the devil and his angels and all those that will be condemned on the Day of judgment. Some try to argue from scripture that there is no hell, while others just simply don't believe it. My friend, just as sure as there is a heaven above, where God Almighty dwells, there is a hell. One that denies the existence of an eternal hell doesn't believe in God who created it (Psalms 14:1).
Hell is defined as, "the place to which sinners and unbelievers go after death for torment" Webster’s New World Dictionary. However, the Bible gives us the best definition of hell, describing the sort of place hell will be. The Bible teaches that Hell is:
A Prepared Place. Jesus said, "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels" (Matthew 25:41). Hell is a prepared place for an unprepared people. My friend, each of us need to prepare to meet God so each of us can spend eternity in the other prepared place, heaven (John 14:1-4).
Eternal. "And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal" (Matthew 25:46). The apostle John says of hell, "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever" (Revelation 20:10). The Bible teaches that there is a hell, and it will be eternal.
A Place Of Torment. The Bible teaches that hell will be a terrible place to spend even for one second. Hell will be "a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth" (Matthew 13:42); "everlasting fire" (Matthew 25:41); "...hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched" (Mark 9:43-44); "...the lake of fire and brimstone...and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever" (Revelation 20:10).
A Place Of Darkness. "But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth" (Matthew 8:12). The reason hell will be "outer darkness" is because "God is light" (I John 1:5) and hell will be a place "away from the presence of the Lord" (2 Thessalonians 2:9).
A Place Of No Relief. Since the Bible teaches that hell is a place of eternal torment, that means there will NEVER be any relief from the suffering of pain and torment. My friend, please think long and hard about this.
A Place Of No Hope. I have heard it said that if you take hope from man, you have not a man. My friend, hell will be an eternal place of NO HOPE for any change. God will not come back after a few thousand years a rescue everyone from hell. Let's all prepare to MISS hell.
